    • Trivia
While filming a particularly bloody scene, Rider Strong decided to go for a walk in the woods between setups. Covered head to toe in blood, he happened upon a group of 35 schoolgirls, who were on a field trip. The girls screamed at the sight of this blood-drenched hiker, and then screamed even louder when they realized the hiker was the star of Boy Meets World (1993). The girls chased Rider through the woods. Strong eventually made it back to the film crew, and vowed never to wander off between scenes again.
    • Goofs
When Marcy starts having sex with Paul, despite the fact that she throws him down on the bed from an upright position, when she falls on him there is a bed-sheet covering her ass. It's obvious that the sheet has somehow been stuck to her body, as it would have fallen off otherwise. (See trivia.)
    • Quotes
      • Justin: Yeah, he's a professor... OF BEING A DOG! OOOH, FACED!... Scratch moded!
    • Crazy credits
The DVD main menu displays options written on actress Cerina Vincent's leg. The menu opens with her leg covered in shaving cream, which she shaves away to sequentially reveal each option.
    • Alternate versions
Lions Gate Films required Eli Roth to cut approximately five minutes from the film for its 2003 US theatrical release to secure an R rating. The original festival version, which premiered at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival prior to acquisition, contained extended scenes of violence, alternate footage, and rearranged sequences. This original cut was restored as the Unrated Director's Cut and released on Blu-ray on February 16, 2010 . Differences between the Theatrical Version and Director's Cut include:
      • The opening shop scene is replaced with an extended truck sequence through the woods, followed by an additional conversation about the map after Bert claims he left something at the store.
      • Paul (Rider Strong) pets stray dogs behind the building after washing his hands following Dennis's bite; this scene is absent from the Director's Cut.
      • An alternate angle shows Karen (Jordan Ladd) swimming away after the dock scene with Paul.
      • Following the "Don't...Leave...Me!" sequence, an additional scene shows Bert entering the room to yell at Karen about the truck not being ready and the need to clean up the bum's blood.
      • The fireplace argument scene is extended when Bert makes a joke about his burnt marshmallow.
      • Bert sits outside guarding the shed with his shotgun immediately after the group fires at the dog and tells Karen they will stay to protect her.
      • Bert's gunshot death in the cabin shows bloodier impact; the R-rated version cuts away quickly and only displays the aftermath from a difficult angle.
      • Paul grabs the long-haired hick after the attack, drags him to the cellar, and yells, "When they get here, tell them I didn't do it!" before slamming the door.
      • The human-bonfire sequence includes an extended shot of the cellar door opening from the inside, followed by multiple shotguns firing, blood splattering on walls, and explicit shots of blood and guts on walls, ceiling, and floor after gasoline is poured and ignited.
      • The ending is restructured: instead of only police drinking contaminated lemonade followed by a country song, the entire town gathers for cups, featuring additional dialogue among townspeople, different shots, extended FDA testing footage, and longer visibility of the water supply truck.
