Civilization III is one of those strategy games where I can lose track of time almost immediately. The basic loop is still incredibly strong. Found a city, explore the map, meet another civilization, research something useful and suddenly I am planning what the empire should look like fifty turns from now. I really like the introduction of Culture because borders finally feel like something I am building instead of just lines around my cities. Watching a badly placed enemy city slowly get swallowed by my culture is incredibly satisfying. Strategic resources are another great addition. Discovering that I have no Iron or Oil inside my borders can completely change the next part of the game and sometimes gives me a very good reason to suddenly become much less friendly with a neighbor.

The civilizations also feel more distinct than before thanks to unique units and different traits. Getting a Hoplite as Greece or a Panzer as Germany gives certain eras their own personality, and the new victory conditions mean I do not always have to conquer half the planet to win. Diplomacy can be wonderfully treacherous too. Trading technologies and resources feels useful until someone I have been supplying for centuries suddenly decides my border city would look better under their flag. I also like building Wonders and watching cities gradually become proper economic and cultural centers. When everything is working, Civilization III has that perfect rhythm where finishing one technology only creates three new things I want to do.

There are definitely things that drive me crazy. Corruption can become brutal in a large empire, making distant cities feel almost useless no matter how much effort I put into them. Managing dozens of workers individually becomes exhausting, and moving huge armies one unit at a time is painful once a serious war starts. The AI can also be unbelievably stubborn in diplomacy and sometimes seems to demand ridiculous deals simply because it can. Later Civilization games made many of these systems smoother, but Civilization III still has a particular balance I really like. It is deep without drowning me in mechanics, unpredictable enough that every campaign develops differently and dangerously good at making me say just one more turn.

The adventure genre features exciting journeys, quests, or expeditions undertaken by characters who often face challenges, obstacles, and risks in pursuit of a goal. Adventures can take place in a wide range of settings, from exotic and fantastical locations to historical or even everyday environments.
