A relevant movie even today . Balan Nair is the patriarch of a large family . They are not comfortable economically . The first daughter Seema has been jilted by Ratheesh who goes on to marry a rich girl .

Much later Ratheesh comes back in her life as his wife files for divorce . The reason being her husband is always thinking of his first love . Seema manages to speak sense in his head and he unites with his wife .

She becomes a lawyer and remains unmarried. The second Unnimary is married with 2 girls to a wastrel insensitive man and is mostly unhappy . Sometimes She gets help from her MIL but she has to fend for herself in that affection less marriage .

He is unhappy with having 2 daughters and keeps torturing her . She often runs back home to her family with her sob stories.

The third Vanita is a student but sees her class mate on the sly . The entire movie is about the problems of these girls and the twists their lives take . They are not educated enough to take charge of their lives . The parallel story is of a muslim family . Ayesha a young widow is manipulated into signing her property to her family . When she is about to put her finger print , their driver Mamooty intervenes . Though he is just a driver he insists on reading the doc before signing as a witness . Ayesha is shocked to realize that she is being cheated and realises the importance of education. She unites with Mamooty .

The lives of these people are entwined in some manner .

Unni Mary manages to free her daughters from her husband's clutches . The patriarch gets a stroke with all this and can only watch helplessly when his family is tearing apart .

His only son Rajkumar marries rich Sapna . Her mother a petulant pouty sulky Sukumari is not happy with his low income family and tries to wean her daughter away .

Initially Rajkumar succumbs to the glamour of his inlaws and moves out . Soon he realises his mistake and their shallow lives and returns back home. Sukumari and Sapna are taught a lesson in the true filmy style by her SIL - with a slap .

Seema often stresses the importance of education to her siblings . The third Vanitha elopes with her lover but sadly for her he turns out to be a predator. She is used and abused by him and ends up in a woman's home .

She refuses to return back home with Seema saying she does not want to sully the family name .

Unni tries to commit suicide but in this process her two girls die . She is saved by some fisher men and in the final scene - she is dragged to court for killing her kids . Seema being her advocate argues in court that she should be hanged else her entire life she will die slowly of guilt .

The movie is about educating girls . Sukumari is likable even in her short comic villain role . Sapna looks every inch the rich girl with her tall slim frame . Over all a fine family fare . Mamooty , Rajkumar and Ratheesh are fine in their small roles.
