None for the Road (1957)

Jerry is a hot shot who thinks he can drink as many beers as he wants and still get behind the wheel. This educational short from Herk Harvey (CARNIVAL OF SOULS) is basically a warning film against drinking and driving and for the most part it's a well-made film. A lot of these educational shorts are viewed today for their campy nature but you're not going to find any laughs here. The story is told in a very dramatic way so there's no any cheap laughs to be had and for the most part the performances are decent or at least a lot better than you typically see. The film benefits from Harvey's direction, which handles the material well and he also manages to keep it moving at a nice pace and it has a nice little twist in it that makes it work.
