I didn't have high hopes for 'Making of the Carousel Girls Calendar' video. Perhaps it was because the last title I had given a go for the exact same reason I was about to watch this - Penthouse Pet Julie K. Smith - wasn't that great. Maybe had to do with reading too much into its bts element as well. Thinking it wouldn't deliver real nude visuals of quality. So that said, I'm pleased to tell you it's not half bad.

The intro includes a standard montage showing off sights of the naked ladies and unique clips, but also lets you know the calendar is being shot by photographer Phillip Mond who was no stranger to working with Penthouse. Brief history on carousels themselves before a former model turned Mond's assistant Karrine Postman has a bit to say. I was happy to see a few known models would be involved here outside my fav, but by the time this opening reaches a casting call in a strip club it's already too long in the tooth (9.5 mins).

"January: Robin" Brown - Pet Apr 1992 - needs no introduction to Penthouse fans. Per the formula its words from the Pet - Pet Apr 1992 - in between her being photographed on the carousel. Now its legit video as she poses done up Marilyn Monroe-like style as the camera soaks up her pretty face and boobs. "On Location: Robin" a cutaway to the much more legit video segment here per the format as she poses topless in a sports car and you hear from her throughout. You'll notice later she's nude, but the focus is strictly top heavy no pun intended (6.5 mins). "February: Julie" K. Smith - Pet Feb 1993 - sees her in an high fashion pink dress and stylish hat on the carousel. Routine pics, bts shots hearing her speak and then legit vid looking great as her boobs bust-out. "On Location: Julie" goes between at the pool or in and out of a dress and wearing a corset but otherwise naked on top of a grand piano. It might be the visual sights pleasing you, but hearing her talk some more and revealing she wanted to open her own strip club in LA is interesting. I guess it never came to fruition (6.5 mins).

"March: Shandra" a model just as gorgeous as the ones that came before her. Carousel pics, bts words and video per usual as you see and hear from Phillip himself much more than before shooting. "On Location: Shandra" sees her posing fully naked on horseback with a cowboy hat on first. More posing off the horse a hose comes into play briefly and her tan lines particularly on her boobs are a nice visual (6.5 mins). "April: Dawnya" has her pics getting taken as oil briefly comes into play and there's a nice pan upwards pass her bush. "On Location: Dawnya" sees her naked right away outdoors as a lite workout theme plays out beyond normal poses. Some closeups here do a nice job of showing off her petite body (6.5 mins).

"May: Morgan" sees her with a flower behind her ear striking poses that really show off a nice pair of boobs. Ditto the video where it appears she's lightly oiled. "On Location: Morgan" is more in her natural element posing topless on top of a motorbike looking pretty sweet (6 mins). "June: Pleasure Twins" has these identical blondes - Jennifer, Justina - in white lingerie as they strike poses for pics, vid. "On Location: Pleasure Twins" is a mix between playing pool, posing on rooftop, in the shower or poolside. Mostly boobs, but at the pool sights of their trimmed muff makes it into the mix. They talk about themselves or childhood memories of carousels (6 mins).

"July: Gina" in a patriotic hat, white suspenders & shorts even holding the American flag. Another pretty brunette with a petite body and lovely face. "On Location: Gina" poses within a lot of lush green foliage wearing nothing but a hairband for most of it and once again looks great. It then cuts to her in a shower putting water over herself and then once again back to her outside (6.5 mins). "August: Erin" poses in an open top & gold bottoms. "On Location: Erin" too sees her mounting a motorbike as she's in & out of a leather jacket. Said to be a proper fashion model there's topless shots, but honestly not a ton (6 mins). "September: Sam" Phillips - Pet Jun 1993 - goes cowgirl in a vest, chaps and hat as the female narrator mentions Sam's sense of humor and its not for fluff. Mond who usually acts, looks pretty professional, dialed in to the point of strict lets out a big laugh for something she does offscreen. Lots of topless shots as Sam looks fine. "On Location: Sam" is more of the real deal and shows her off better. Posing in an open robe she shows it all and looks very comfortable doing so. Shame about a few distracting video effects here, but more nice shots of her topless playing pool get thrown in (6.5 mins).

"October: Shelly" is another pretty brunette and has her photoshoot done at night. It also breaks the trend of all the female focus being front heavy. Starts off with a nice shot of her butt on display. "On Location: Shelly" takes her onboard a yacht where's she shown off topless right away and some full body shots of her underwater in a pool. It then moves on with her in a black top pulled up, jean shorts laying on the ground. Back to posing on the yacht with muff on display (6 mins). "November: Sasha" - PotY 1994 - is the sole exception who we never hear from during the video. I assume because she doesn't speak English. Done up in a costume with accessories made to appear Native American. "On Location: Sasha" has her outside posing poolside or in the water. It's a much better look at her than the photo op from earlier that really captures her nude beauty (6 mins).

"December: Heather" is a red bra, skirt & stockings has her segment not only show off her nice face, boobs but also captures her butt which I appreciated. "On Location: Heather" is her posing near a pool and the many panning shots capture her nicely. On a boat lays out nude before it goes back to the pool (6.5 mins). Serving as a finale is a handful of the models at a pool for a wrap party being silly as they drink champagne and splash about the water. Very happy to see Julie K here in the kind of light hearted segment supplying equal parts humor and boobs (2 mins). Robin returns over the end credits to bake a cake, but its solely about being silly and no nudity.

Julie K's part was very satisfying and the rest of 'Making of the Carousel Girls Calendar' wasn't bad either. It's fairly basic, but fans of Penthouse and old school Pets will get an extra notch out of seeing ladies they like, remember. I expected the worst going into a mix of largely boobs and chatter, but this managed to be mildly arousing in a couple of places.
