Having enjoyed The Heathens of Kummerow, I was hoping The Just People of Kummerow would continue the sharp rural satire and mischievous spirit of the original. Instead, this follow up feels much lighter and more straightforward, almost like a family adventure film aimed primarily at children.

Set once again in the small Mecklenburg village of Kummerow before World War I, the film follows the village boys as they become involved in exposing injustice and helping the adults around them see the truth. The countryside atmosphere and period setting are still charming, and longtime viewers will appreciate revisiting familiar faces and locations, but the edge that made the first film memorable is largely missing here.

Where the original balanced humor with clever social commentary, this sequel leans far more heavily into youthful adventure and simplistic morality. Much of the tension feels sanitized, and the children often come across less like believable village boys and more like storybook heroes determined to save the day.

Not a terrible film by any means, but compared to Heathens, it lacks the same authenticity. More enjoyable as a light children's adventure than as a true continuation of the original's spirit.
