Rehana is the daughter of a rich man Manmohan. She falls in love with Anil Dhawan who is from a poor back ground . He lives with his blind mother Dulari in a hut .

Meanwhile Shatrughna is a rich brattish industrialist who works with MK ( Rehana's father ) . He sees Rehana in some painting show and falls for her immediately .

He manipulates her father MK into getting her married to him. Pleased at the rich SIL , MK speaks to his daughter about the differences in status between AD and Shatrughna .

AD is sad to see her go but he drills practical advice into Rehana's head about money and economics .

Unhappy but dutiful , she gets married to Shatrughna . She tries her best to jell into her new life . He does not make any pretense of his liking for her . From day one he goes back to his open free partying life as before . She tries her best to join in without trying to change him . Her life is mostly filled with his cars and house full of servants and partying with him to handle his social status .

Meanwhile she meets AD again as a school teacher. His status has improved a bit and he is a known author today . His mother's constant companion and helper Nayantara loves silently . She helps his family at every turn .

Shatrughna's health worsens thanx to his indulgent lifestyle . He realises the futility of lavish habits finally .

In a rare sensible sensitive moment , he advises his wife to not worry about society , go back to her earlier life and dies quietly .

Nayantara meanwhile commits suicide being aware of her low economic status .

Rehana and AD unite .

Dulai is likeable in her affectionate mother's role which she has played hundreds of time.

Rehana looks cute in her bouffant pony tail.

Manmohan , Johny Wiskey , Asit Sen are the usual characters in Ishara's movies carrying important side roles .

AD is perfect as some one who is aware of his low status .

Shatrughna has the arrogance of a brat from the first frame .
