A translator (Sheldon Pearson) researching the works of the Marquis de Sade learns he has cancer and decides to use what he thinks are his remaining days to indulge primitive fantasies.

Beautifully shot and scored, it engages in a lot of sadosexual suggestion but rarely delivers anything tangible. Exotic dancer, part-time actress Babette Bardot flaunts her impressive rig around in one of his more surreal fantasies, and there are other moments of enchantment, desire, lust and loathing which are visually appealing in a loose narrative format.

Generally works well as an erotic fantasy, baby faced Pearson looks smug and self satisfied with his character's abandonment of social stigmas, apparently willing to act upon any desiderative impulse irrespective of the consequences - perhaps predictable and which the plot anticipates early on when he laments de Sade's punishment for his moral crimes.

Not especially violent nor sexually explicit, it's borderline abstract sexploitation with a distinctly sixties aesthetic and satisfies on a superficial level even if perhaps it was reaching for something more intellectual.
