What I loved about them is how 'simple' their plots are. Such short runtimes reveal so much about the communities they film. The small touch was when documentaries were released in the 1950s. There is a feeling that the people we see on screen may have been among the last to live and work in these traditional ways before moving to the cities, and the roles they occupied in the community became industrialised.

Its narratives often weave together politics, contemporary social change, class consciousness, and family dynamics, balancing artistic ambition with entertainment that resonated widely.
