This mini-series took two years to produce and some camera techniques were invented specifically for it. That includes crude motion capture before Robert Zemeckis made it a trademark in the 2000's.

The French-Canadian series Decouverte re-adapted this miniseries slightly for Quebec viewers. While it mostly uses footage from the English original, Charles Tisseyre is the host and narrator rather than Robert Winston.
