Anthea Turner took over as the primary presenter of the show in 1998, though Judith Chalmers was still involved as a reporter for the series.
In her 2000 autobiography "Fools Rush In", Turner discussed how physically demanding the series was for her, not only for all the travelling, but also because her marriage to
Peter Powell was breaking down.
Among her comments, Turner claimed: "The really arduous part, however, was the travelling and the distances involved. I was living out of a suitcase for weeks on end, hurrying to catch flights, trains, boats or buses, and no sooner had I got home, unpacked and done the washing than I'd have to repack for the next assignment. For the entire time I was doing Wish You Were Here, I could never settle. It's a job for a young person with no home life, not for a thirty-something woman running away from her problems and struggling with her marriage and her mixed-up emotions."
