Box office failure for something so out of touch with the reality

The literal translation of the title of this film is: Standard Mrs.

The movie is destined to fail because when it was released, China was at war and everyone was trying to survive World War II and their lives disrupted and lowered.  The movie about upper middle class wives lacked the response from audience because every body's life had no similarity to it.

Mandarin-language cinema across Mainland China, Taiwan, and Singapore explores historical reflection, cultural identity, and personal sacrifice, often expressed through poetic visuals and sweeping narratives. In Mainland China, this takes the form of allegory and large-scale epics that reflect on national history. Taiwan emphasizes intimate modernist realism, generational change, and the search for identity. Singapore contributes stories of migration, multiculturalism, and the negotiation of tradition in a globalized city.
