A unit of Polish soldiers train in Scotland for a future in which they will retake their country. The locals help them celebrate a wedding, but a highland reel to the pipes is replaced in their minds by a troupe of dancers doing the mazurka.

I'd like to award this a higher rating, but the condition of th copy I looked at does not allow me. The print I looked at was dark, and the people who released it insisted on putting one of those rolling time stamps at the top of the frame, a "bug" indicating its provenance in the bottom right, and "The Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum" smack dab in the middle for its entire length. I can see that cinematographer Jack Cardiff's typical brilliant work is up to par by examining the edges, but my general grouchiness at the obliteration of the purpose of seeing the movie -- which is to see the movie -- is of less importance that the self-agrandisement of the print's owner.
