Peggy's 59er Diner

Peggy Nicholson, who had previously been on WTHR's kid and puppet show, "Peggy and the Vantastics" (which continued as "The Vantastics") hosted this local kids' morning cartoon bloc with wizard Don Barnes, who claimed not only to have trained under Merlin but also aged backwards and would die as a baby. Don sometimes taught viewers magic tricks, but often did magic that relied on camera effects, which viewers were told was real magic. They were joined by a pack of puppets, including Chef Choufleur, who shared recipes on the program. Midseason, the show added a half-hour afternoon bloc of cartoons with Peggy bumpers. The show was canceled after a year when WPDS was sold and became WXIN, which it has been ever since. Peggy and Don would often make personal appearances in the Indianapolis and Central Indiana area, including the Marion County Fair and the Indiana State Fair. Don brought his wizard act solo to Westfield, Indiana's sesquicentennial celebration.
