Fort Carré in Antibes houses the Military School of Fencing and Combat Sports. Sergeant Andre Leroy reunites there with Thomelin, Le Guen, and Finot, with whom he forms an inseparable quartet. Before returning to Fort Carré, Andre facilitated the escape of Catherine, a young orphan, who had been taken in by nomads.

André Hugon is mainly known for having directed the first French talkie "les trois masques" ;his work is extensive and unambitious but often entertaining.

His career began in the silent age (1915) and ended in 1952 with this film .

Not only the wicked cousin (Marcel Pérès) tries to rape the pure orphan,but he is also smuggling cigarettes ;the second part is predictable cops and robbers stuff .

Often filmed on location in Antibes (and it takes advantage of its famous city walls ), the film features Jean Carmet as Le Guen :he would enjoy a brilliant career later on.

André reacts promptly and aided by his three inseparable friends, tracks down the bandits and frees Catherine. The two lovebirds marry and live happily ever after.
