Parcel Post Pete finds what a reviewer calls a lion tied up to a lamp post with a tag indicating it is from or to be delivered to Africa. It gets free and chases him.

It's an early cartoon directed by Frank Moser for Hearst's International Film Service. It's attributed to Tom Powers, a popular cartoonist of the era -- he was, some sources claim, Teddy Roosevelt's favorite cartoonist. While the cartoon is amusing for 1916, it has many of the problems of then current animations: almost no background work, and while it is claimed that the beast is a lion, it might be a large dog or even a gigantic rat, to judge from the ears. Still, it's an interesting and rare side of the history of animation.
