By this point, the supporting characters had taken over the Oswald franchise, and producer Walter Lantz was using it to launch new franchises. That may work for a cartoon or two or even many of them, depending on how well they're written and produced. Certainly this is a funny cartoon if you like Elmer and Dickie. It just doesn't do anything for Oswald, or the people in the audience who came to see the rabbit.
