Despite Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and his cartoons being popular and well received at the time, they have been vastly overshadowed over time by succeeding animation characters. It is a shame as, while not cartoon masterpieces, they are fascinating for anybody wanting to see what very old animation looked like.

'Mars' is one of the better Lantz Oswald cartoons and is every bit as good as the best of the Disney and Winkler eras. Not all the Lantz Oswald cartoons are particularly good, there are some average or less ones and a few only worth seeing for historical interest. That is not the case with 'Mars', which has a fun premise and does wonders with it.

The story is predictable and slight, not unexpected in an Oswald cartoon where the stories were nearly always the weak link, though more eventful than most Lantz Oswald cartoons and not as much an excuse to string along its content. There is some occasional crudeness too.

However, there is not much else wrong. The sound quality for a cartoon so old and techniques still in its early days is not as primitive as it could have been. Oswald is very endearing.

Music is as energetic as ever too, enjoyed the catchy musical interludes that didn't slow things down. The animation is mostly quite good, with evidence of smoothness and detail. Oswald's movements, expressions and gestures are well done and the detail and smoothness is there. As said, all the gags work well and are advantaged by the lively pacing.

When he bends over to pick up the cloth, he tears his clothes, leaving the rabbit to get the girl--but not before he is kicked into space. He eventually lands on Mars. After introducing himself via song, he interacts with the planet's sights. The rabbit rides back to Earth on a comet and crashes into Pete, interrupting the bear's would-be marriage to Kitty.
