What Shall It Profit A Man, Though He Play Hamlet But Ruin His Mother's Hat?

Edward Pell Jr and pal Buddy Messinger have the Shakespeare bug. They stage HAMLET for the neighborhood children, and it's a success, except for Buddy's sister, Lucille Ricksen. However, they have borrowed their mothers' clothing for costumes, and wrecked them in the process. Mistress Ricksen will tell on them unless she is liberally bribed.
