(at around 24 mins) The intertitle indicates Scout is "Unable to understand why his best pal's red coat was gone." However, dogs have dichromatic vision (humans have trichromatic) and are red-green color blind. Scout would know the coat the coat was a different color, but he wouldn't have known it was red.
