Sir Derek Jacobi was nominated for the 1988 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play and re-created his stage role in this movie production.

Goofs
For a show about a code breaker, it's amusing that the credits finish with an error in the year code. The production year of 1997 is given in Roman numerals as MCMLXCVII. 'LXC' is an impossible sequence, and it should have been MCMXCVII.
