The film was shot on Hi-8, and transferred to 16mm via TV screen.
The entire film was shot with a hand-held Hi-8 camera, often using pre-existing and natural light.
There was no scripted dialogue during the shoot.
The nighttime footage of the montage at the beginning was shot by director Fred Kelemen in Budapest, Hungary, long before the main part was shot in Berlin, Germany, but in the final film it appears as the same anonymous city.
