Harry says he will go home and have sex. This is played for laughs.

Several characters passionately kiss. There is no sex or nudity, just mild talk of sex and some chemistry between Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.

Payne takes Harry hostage and Jack shoots his partner in the leg to make him less mobile.

Payne makes semi-graphic taunts to Jack by saying he will get a medal if he "picks up all the bus driver's teeth." He also says that the police will have to pick up someone's remains "with a sponge."

The film is loaded with explosions and gunplay, but not too much blood. And, there is the constant fear of disaster.

Payne fires a shotgun through the roof of an elevator at Jack and Harry. Harry falls into the elevator and Payne grabs him by the nostrils. Jack ends up in the elevator at gunpoint and flinches when Payne pulls the trigger, but the shotgun doesn't fire.

Jack and Payne fight with punches thrown and Payne slamming Jack's head onto the car. As Payne tries to strangle Jack, his head is forced up into the path of a hanging light that decapitates him.

An explosion blows Jack into a wall, knocking him unconscious.

A woman tries to get off the bus, but Payne sets off an explosion that kills her.

Since they have to keep the bus above 50 M. P. H., it runs into many cars, signs, etc... that are in its way.

The bus strikes a baby carriage that turns out to be filled with aluminum cans and not a child.

Several officers are killed in a house that's been rigged with a bomb that goes off.

At a gala held for the two police officers, attendees formally drink champagne. Both of the officers clearly get drunk at the end of the party. Several other people drink alchohol and a few people smoke there at the party.

There are sensational crashes, thunderous explosions, vicious hand-to-hand combat sequences, valiant maneuvers aboard a bus, on top of a moving train, in an elevator shaft... nonstop suspense-filled feats of bravery to combat the nonstop evil of a brilliant, but unhinged, villain.

The opening rescue sequence can be pretty intense. There are several instances with many characters that almost result in death or bodily harm.

The tone of the film is dark and intense.

The whole film is full of deadly peril, which can be frightening, suspenseful and intense to teens and children, as the plot is about a bus that will blow up if it travels under 50 mph after it travels at over 50. That means the bus must desperately careen throughout the city, unable to slow down for anything with a high risk of collisions of all varieties.
