A New Love in Tokyo

Contrary to statements published by authors Thomas Wiesser and Yuko Mihara Weisser in their books on Japanese films (which, like their book on Hong Kong cinema, are riddled with errors), A New Love In Tokyo was not the first official Japanese movie to be shown in theaters uncensored and with full frontal nudity unfogged. Two years prior to this film, Kaneto Shindo's The Strange Tale of Oyuki featured award-winning lead actress Yuki Sumida in at least two live-action scenes where full frontal nudity is seen to a greater extent than it is in the black & white still photographs of Sawa Suzuki (created by famed Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki for a concurrently released photo-book) that show pubic hair in A New Love In Tokyo. A small number of Japanese films made prior to both of these also feature faint glimpses of pubic hair, although the vast majority of Japanese films did indeed use 'fogging' to hide full frontal nudity.
