Sakay

Julio Diaz, John Arcilla and Pen Medina were also in Bayani (1992). Diaz played the titular character in both films, Andres Bonifacio and Macario Sakay, respectively. Bonifacio and Sakay were key Filipino revolutionary leaders from the working-class districts of Manila who fought for complete national independence. Both joined the Katipunan early, faced betrayal, and died tragic deaths. Bonifacio co-founded the Katipunan in 1892 to overthrow Spanish rule. Sakay joined the Katipunan in 1894 and fought under Bonifacio during the 1896 Revolution. Bonifacio was executed by a rival Filipino military court in Cavite in 1897 while Sakay was tricked into surrendering in 1906 under a false promise of amnesty by American authorities, convicted under the American Brigandage Act, and hanged in 1907. Bonifacio was remembered as the Father of the Philippine Revolution. Sakay was falsely branded a bandit before modern historians reclassified him as a true hero.
