Tora-San Makes Excuses

His role as the priest in this "Tora-san" entry became the final film role for Chishū Ryū. He had created the role of the priest in the very first of the "Tora-san" movies over twenty years earlier. He remained active at the age of 88 when he made this film. He died of cancer the following year.
