French writer and TV host Philippe Labro - who wrote the original preface to Stéphanie's book in 1983 - claimed in it to have only "reworked" the story of the credited author, the 13 years old teengirl, asserting that he had done so with her. But in 2007, when the novel was republished under his real name, he confirmed that he was in fact the true and sole author of the story, which was adapted into this TV-movie in 1991, and that "Stéphanie" had never existed.
