Lord McLaidlaw suggests that his step daughter Lina McLaidlaw is destined to be a spinster, however, she falls heavily for Johnnie Aysgarth and marries him, she quickly learns he's something of a cad.

It's an interesting remake, it doesn't have the same zest or the light charm of the original, but the story holds up, and there's a certain 1980s glamour about it.

The title 'Suspicion' is perfect apt, you have your doubts about Johnnie, but nothing tangible, he just seems like a fly boy, a cheeky chappy.

Despite being filmed in Blighty and featuring someone with an English accent so rounded and polished as Anthony Andrews, it feels like an American production, it's slightly glossy, and something feels a little out of synch. The music is too much, as though a concert pianist were sat next to the actors tickling the keys.

Johnnie's constant referring to his wife as Monkey face is really irritating, it's not a nice term of endearment.

I actually think Anthony Andrews plays the part of Johnnie well, he's suave and charming, though I'm not sure I see him as a rogue, he's too refined. Jane Curtin is delightful as Lina.

Overall, it's pretty good.
