Touching movie about childhood, faith, and the harsh reality of the world

This movie is a rare example of made for TV production that skillfully depicts the crusades from the point of view of faithful people, but nonetheless without compromises with the harsh reality faith must faces when confronted to a world where God appears rarely present.

The costumes and actors are pretty good, especially Etienne the "boy King," and the story is well constructed, with a first part about the naive kids starting their crusade with high spirits, and the second part when they must face hardship, violence, and death, while doubting their enterprise.

Like in "Capitaine des ténèbres", Serge Moati knows how to give real depth to his story and characters. Sad that it has yet to be released in DVD, only old VHS are available. Would deserved a remaster.
