Slow to get going, but worth sticking with

Hwang Jang Lee plays a member of a criminal organization who betrays his "colleagues" by stealing two plates that can be used for printing counterfeit US dollars and hiding them inside a book in a library. Later he is re-captured and tortured until he reveals the hiding place, but before the bad guys can get their hands on the book, a meek teacher (Lawrence Ng) takes it home. It is the teacher's good fortune that the bodyguard of the brothel that his father visits is the incredibly tough - and incredibly pretty - Elaine Lui, who helps him fight off those who are chasing him. Meanwhile, Lee breaks free and also starts looking for the book....The main problem with "Innocent Interloper" is that it doesn't take off until Elaine Lui appears, and that doesn't happen until 40 minutes into the movie. After that point, those who have stuck with it will be rewarded: Lui, one of Hong Kong's most underrated female stars, makes a phenomenal action debut, and the climactic fight between Hwang Jang Lee and the bad boss is good and intense as well. Just beware of the slow first half. (**1/2)
