Les
- Derek: Victor! What's happening?
- Victor: Just keeping busy.
- Derek: Yeah, I bet you are. So, what time does Christie come on?
- Victor: Later on tonight, I guess. You should know. She's your girl, isn't she?
- Derek: So you like working here?
- Victor: It's all right.
- Derek: How's the pay?
- Victor: Not bad.
- Derek: Good. I am glad to hear that, Victor. I am certainly glad to hear that. Careful you don't drop anything.
- Victor: I'll make sure of it. See you around.
- [He walks off]
- Derek: Count on it.
- Collin: What is the matter with you? Why didn't you do anything?
- Mule: You know, all you had to do was give me a sign. I would've done it for you, man.
- Derek: I don't know, dude.
- Mule: You're starting to worry me, man.
- Les: Check it out, check it out. It's our boy, Pastey.
- Mule: Okay. Remember him now, man?
- Derek: Yeah, I've seen the jerk around.
- Les: For too long.
- Derek: Does he have any wheels?
- Barnwell: He rides a ten-speed. His father had him sell his car the last time he got a 502.
- Les: A geek, a snitch and a lush. I don't know.
- Derek: Okay, we do it now. Let's go outside and have a chat with Mr. Krasnick.
- Mule: Derek, my man, let's do it.
- [Pastey is confronted outside by the Brotherhood]
- Pastey: What do you want?
- Les: We want you, Pastey.
- Barnwell: Repent, sinner, and get ready to meet your maker.
- Pastey: Leave me alone.
- Mule: Down on your knees, geek.
- Victor: Whoa, whoa!
- [Derek stops one of the other from lunging]
- Derek: Hey, no!
- Victor: You having a problem with these guys, Eddie?
- Pastey: I don't even know who they are.
- Victor: Get behind me.
- Pastey: What?
- Victor: Get behind me, now.
- Les: You're making a mistake, hero.
- Victor: Yeah, tell me without the mask and maybe I'll believe you.
- Mule: Hey, you're gonna get hurt, boy.
- Victor: You know, the suspense is already killing me.
- Mule: Really? This is your lucky night, pal. See, the Brotherhood's got a list and you're not on it.
- Les: Yet.
- Mule: Watch your back, Pastey. I still owe you, man.
- [Les has a concealed handgun in his coat]
- Collin: Are you crazy?
- Bob Grootemat: You go to Santa Lucia, right? Football player. Quarterback.
- Derek: That's right. You go there too?
- Bob Grootemat: Last year. I seen you play. You're pretty good, man.
- Derek: Thanks.
- Bob Grootemat: So what'd you come here for, quarterback?
- Derek: A friend's bike was stolen. Big roadster. Red. We're looking for it.
- Bob Grootemat: [scoffs] So why'd you come here, man? You think I stole it?
- Les: We don't know who stole it. We're just looking, that's all.
- Bob Grootemat: You think a Mexican stole your friend's bike?
- Collin: I saw the guy.
- Bob Grootemat: Oh, you saw the guy?
- Collin: That's right.
- Bob Grootemat: Why didn't you stop him, man?
- Collin: He was too far away.
- Bob Grootemat: But you saw him, right? He had black, greasy hair, huh? And brown skin. And he was wearing chinos and his shoes were really shiny, right? He had some tattoos, man? Maybe a big snake wrapped around a cross?
- Les: Yeah. And he was scarfing down a taco and he had chili sauce dripping on his shirt. You know what I mean?
- Bob Grootemat: Go home, quarterback.
- Mule: And if we don't?
- Gang member: [threateningly] Then we're gonna rent a helicopter and take it to 3,000 feet and drop you like a sack of sewage.
- Bob Grootemat: We don't know nothing about no motorcycles, man. And we don't need no white boys playing cops. Go back to Santa Lucia, quarterback. And don't come back here. Unless you come as my friend.
- [They all leave]
- Scottie: We're lucky to be alive.
- Mule: What do we do now?
- Derek: We made a mistake. Let's not make it any worse.
- Les: I say they got it.
- Derek: I don't give a damn what you say.
- Collin: Look, I don't know... The guy who stole it was really far away. I couldn't swear he was Mexican. And even if he was, he could've taken it anywhere, not just here.
- Barnwell: Let's go home, Mule.
- [Les handgun is still in the car]
- Derek: You forgot something, Les. Next time, leave it at home, Les. No guns, got it?
- Collin: We almost needed it tonight, Derek. Les was prepared.
- Mule: Yeah, man, if it'd gotten hairy, it might have stopped 'em, right?
- Derek: Are you guys out of your minds? What would you have done if they hadn't? Blown their heads off? Huh?
- Les: You blew it. You went chicken on us, man. I mean, we could've had those guys...
- [Derek angrily grabs him and pins him down before angrily letting him go]
- Mule: You okay, man? Let's get out of here. Come on. Let's go. Come on, Les.
- Les: You go ahead.
- Mule: Come on man, I'll drive you home.
- Les: Just take off, will ya?
- Derek: We do this the right way or we end it right here, right now.
- Barnwell: Tremaine was a target, Derek. Six votes, all In favor.
- Derek: In favor of what? Roughing him up. But knifing him? No way!
- Les: What did you want us to do, Derek? Pants him? Swipe his favorite pen and pencil set?
- Mule: Yeah, I mean, the punk got what he deserved, Derek. Maybe more, but he'll get a tetanus shot and a few stitches and that'll be it.
- Collin: Except that he'll remember it every time he sits down for the next three weeks.
- Les: And who did it to him.
- Derek: Who's gonna tell Perry Willis who did it to him? You rolled over him like a freight train he doesn't even know why.
- Mule: Yeah, I know. I should've whispered in his ear.
- Derek: This is no joke, Mule! We're trying to make a point out there! When we hit somebody, we do it as the Brotherhood, and we leave a calling card so they and everybody else learns a lesson. No screw-ups. And that goes double for Billy Tremaine. I'm making a rule. If you don't like it, tell me now and I'm gone. From here on out, we don't use knives. No weapons, nothing. We don't need them! Somebody needs to be muscled and we vote on it unanimously, okay. We wanna scare somebody, fine. We wanna have some fun, good. But I'm drawing a line right now. And nobody crosses it.
- Mule: Okay.
- Scottie: Sure.
- Les: Okay.
- Derek: Okay. Barnwell, who's next on the list?
- Barnwell: Well, Mule wants Eddie Krasnick.
- Mule: Yes.
- Barnwell: More affectionately known as Pastey.
- Derek: Do I know him?
- Scottie: Sure you do. Pastey Krasnick. He's the little geeky guy on the stage crew that does the slide shows and stuff.
- Les: He works over at Delmonico's, Derek.
- Derek: What about him, Mule?
- Mule: The geek got me busted on my biology final last year.
- Barnwell: Yeah, he rats on everybody like he's on a crusade.
- Les: He's a self-righteous geek and I say we get him.
- Mule: Besides, man, the guy gets more girls than he knows what to do with. And he's ugly too.
- Derek: If he's such a loser, how come anybody even comes near him?
- Mule: Geek appeal. Works every time.
- Scottie: You got any idea what we could be letting ourselves in for?
- Barnwell: They're Mexican, Scottie, not Mau Maus.
- Scottie: You ever been up there? It's a jungle, man. Hey, I'm not kidding you.
- Mule: So it's a jungle. So what? We're the Great White Hunters.
- Collin: Listen, Scottie's right. It's their turf. They could eat us for breakfast.
- Les: The bike insured, man?
- Collin: Are you kidding?
- Les: You expect the cops to get it back for you?
- Collin: Yeah. And I still believe in Santa Claus.
- Les: Look, man. What do you wanna do, Collin? The way I see it, it's your ball.
- Collin: What do you think?
- Derek: We started this thing for a reason. And part of it was to get back at guys who mess with us.
- Scottie: Except it's not exactly like that, Derek.
- Les: That's right. The beaners got to know what we're here for.
- Derek: Les, we're going in for the bike.
- Scottie: Hey, these guys don't mess around, man. These guys carry guns.
- Mule: So who says we can't?
- Derek: I say. Call it, Collin. It's your bike, it's your call. You wanna go in, we'll go in with you, man. You want to write it off, just say so.
- Collin: Okay. Let's go for it.
- Derek: We go in tonight.
- Les: Righteous.
- Les: I say It's not over until we say it's over.
- Mule: I mean who the hell did the man think he was talking to?
- Collin: When the going gets tough the heat is on, boys.
- Barnwell: The man is only responding the way he's been trained to respond
- Mule: The Brotherhood is the only force of law and order left around here. And I'm not quitting. Derek?
- Derek: I don't know.
- Mule: Great.
- Les: You don't know? What is that supposed to mean?
- Derek: It means I don't know. Maybe Grootemat has a point. You know somebody hits, then we hit back. Then what? They hit back harder. Where does it end?
- Les: As far as I'm concerned, we still got our list. I'm not backing off one inch.
- Derek: Wait a second, Les...
- Les: No, you wait a second! This is not your private party, Derek! We're all in this together, just like we started. All right, Grootemat started it, I plan to finish it. And if you're with me, we meet at the carousel tonight. You're in... or you're out. Looking good, Scottie.
- Collin: I'm in, guys.
- Mule: What are you gonna do, Derek.
- Derek: When I decide, Mule, I'll let you know.
- Les: Oh, man! Oh, man! Yeah! Wasn't that great?
- Collin: We are it, man! Are we it?
- Mule: I can't believe it. Did you see the look on Pastey's face. Did you see that, man? I bet the geeks car is still burning.
- Les: Now, that is a picture I want! Barnwell, why didn't you bring your camera?
- Barnwell: Are you serious? If I'd known it was gonna look that good, I'd have got my video camera, lights, everything. Special effects. Everything.
- Mule: Hey, listen up guys, listen up. We gotta do something for Derek, man.
- Collin: What do you mean?
- Mule: I mean, he's hurting. We gotta do something.
- Barnwell: That's understandable, Mule. That geek, Victor, is moving in on him.
- Les: I said this two weeks ago, didn't I? I said we add this guy to the list, but no, standing here, talking about it.
- Collin: So who says it's too late.
- Mule: No, no, no. Wait a minute, wait a minute. Nobody gets on the list unless we all agree. We've been through this before, man.
- Collin: And what? Derek won't agree.
- Mule: Well, that's it.
- Barnwell: He considers it personal.
- Collin: But it's eating him up, guys! It's eating him up.
- Les: Four of us are a majority, right?
- Collin: A clear majority.
- Mule: Except it's not unanimous. It has to be unanimous.
- Collin: Barnwell?
- Barnwell: well, uh... considering the circumstances, maybe an exception to the rule might be in order.
- Collin: Mule, Mule, Mule. Come here. Talk to us, huh? What do you think? Call it.
- Mule: Whoa! Big D! What's happening, man? We've been waiting for you.
- Derek: Is that right?
- Mule: Yeah!
- Collin: Seen Scottie?
- Derek: Yeah.
- Collin: Well where the hell is he?
- Derek: Don't know. Home, maybe.
- Mule: What's he doing home, man? He's supposed to be here with us.
- Les: And so were you.
- Derek: He's out.
- Barnwell: Out of what?
- Derek: The Brotherhood. He quit.
- Collin: No. Scottie? What's his problem?
- Les: Cause he's chicken. Always has been.
- Derek: Are you guys crazy? I mean, Santa Lucia's a safer place tonight because you torched Pastey's car and trashed some lowriders wheels?
- Les: Derek, you see, we got this problem. Pastey and the Mexicans, see, they're part of it. We said we're gonna clean up this place and that's what we're gonna do.
- Derek: Problem? Pastey's a problem?
- Les: Yeah.
- Derek: You're the problem now, Les. You and your private hit list. Who's gonna be on the list next? Grootemat? How about Scottie? How about the chop suey joint on the beach? Les, you don't like Chinese food that much, do you, huh?
- Les: That's nice. That's good.
- Mule: Come on, man. Don't take it like that. Come on, when we started this, you were with us. We're the Brotherhood man. We take care of each other.
- Collin: We took care of you tonight.
- Mule: That's right. We took care of you. For you, Derek.
- Les: And for Victor Parks.
- Derek: What about Victor?
- Mule: Come on, man. It's not like he's your best friend or anything.
- Collin: Yeah the punk moved in on Christie, didn't he?
- Derek: What goes on between me and Christie is my business, not yours. Not any of yours.
- Barnwell: I think it would be best if we told Derek about our little surprise.
- Derek: What surprise?
- Mule: We had a vote and we put Victor on the list.
- Collin: To help you out.
- Derek: Help me out how? By doing what?
- Les: By putting a hurt on him, man.
- Derek: What? What kind of hurt?
- Mule: It's no big thing, man. It's just a big car he drives, that old antique.
- Les: We wired it.
- Derek: You what?
- Les: We, uh, set up a little surprise for our boy, Victor. With a trip wire, actually. See, he opens the door bang, he loses his front end.
- [Derek punches Les repeatedly and then leaves and drives off in his car]
- Mule: Hey, Derek! Come on, man. Hey, give us a break, man. It's no big deal. We were doing you a favor. Come on. Get back inside.
