Lyrics adapted from 1912 Anonymous French poem, published in La Clochette by Catholic organization, La Ligue.
Music by Sebastian Temple, who translated the French poem into English and set it to music in 1967.
Mr. Temple's original title, "Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi," apparently caused consistent attribution of the lyrics to the Italian 13th-century Catholic priest.
