      Gene Hackman was not proud of his performance in the film, and admitted that he only took the role for the money. He admitted to having had terrible arguments with director Stanley Kramer throughout the filming, but told interviewers he had been very impressed by the energy and inventiveness of his co-star Mickey Rooney.

      The bread truck carrying Tucker and Spiventa is shown driving across the Golden Gate Bridge in the southbound direction from Marin County to San Francisco. However, the very next scene in which the prisoners are escorted out of the truck clearly takes place under the roadway back on the Marin side of the bridge.
