I cannot believe what the other guy wrote about this gem of a perfect television show.

There is no other TV show which shows better Munich and its 'Lebensgefühl' in the early 70ties.

The stories are hilarious, sweet and melancholical even for todays standards. All the actors are very famous in Bavaria and as they speak a strong dialect, it makes it very authentic.

And with Therese Giehse in one of her last roles - she died a year later - a real German superstar actress played the role of the laconic grandmother of the kibd of loser protatonist 'Charlie' .

She was already famous in the 1920ties, one of the greatest stage actresses of her time, being Jewish, homosexual and politically a socalist/ communist then, she had to emigrate in 1933 and returned to Germany after the war. An amazing woman and personality and that she chose to participate in this show from un unknown young scriptwriter/director shows her instinct for quality.

The series was written and directed by the then very young Helmut Dietl who made his break through with it. He was a genius in creating dialogues and situation abd descring a milieu which exactly expressed what many felt and with Günther Maria Halmer, who sadly died this week, he found the perfect guy to play this character 'Charlie' in his first role.

This series enjoys cult status especially in Munich and Bavaria especially in my generation. It won the Grimme Award, the highest German recognition for a production.
