In the 1960s, Pernell Roberts seemed to be on top of the TV world, as he was a regular on "Bonanza"...one of the highest rated westerns on TV. However, he had a yen to do something different and left the show...leaving the Cartwright clan missing one of Ben's sons. Roberts ended up doing a variety of TV shows and movies, though most of them seem to be pretty forgettable...including this one.

This film is set in Tibet just after the country absorbed into China in 1951. And, since the film is NOT especially complimentary of the Chinese government, it's not surprising the film was actually made in Spain.

Gregory Nelson (Roberts) is an international man of advanture who is inexplicably in Tibet. He knows he'd better escape soon, as the Communist government has just taken over. However, there are a couple other westerners who he agrees to take with him...one of which is about the worst written lady character I can recall...cliched and a REALLY bad actress. She hates him instantly (even though he's trying to save her) and she just seems like a belicose goat more than a real woman. In fact, she's so badly written that she seemed to be trying to set feminism back a decade! Can they make it out alive? And, more importantly, does anyone care???

Pernell does a decent job but he's saddled with a poor script, a horrible leading lady and a second-rate production. How he agreed to do this, I have no idea...but he was simply better than this material.
