The title of this cartoon is a word play on the famous fictional "Hopalong Cassidy" character who was created in 1904 by author Clarence E. Mulford in a series of short stories and novels and was then adapted into film, radio, and television characters.
This is the first Looney Tunes cartoon to debut a number of changes to the opening and closing titles of cartoons in this series, which are similar to changes that first appeared on From Hare to Heir (1960):
- "The Vitaphone Corp." is replaced by "Warner Bros. Pictures Inc." in the copyright byline.
- The transition between the series card and cartoon title card on most cartoons changes from a cross-fade to a fade to black.
- Most cartoons' credits are presented in the Dom Casual font.
- On the end card, "A Vitagraph Release" appears as an additional byline beneath "A Warner Bros. Cartoon".
The first of the so-called "blue sky" Road Runner cartoons; starting with this cartoon, the sky color was blue and remained that way for the duration of the theatrical cartoons.
Cowboy TV westerns, set in landscape similar to this, were still very popular viewing at the time.
