This Canadian Broadcasting Company drama went out live on April 3, 1956, to instant acclaim. A kinescope was re-broadcast in August 1956 due to viewer demand to see it again. Hollywood took notice and the same script was used for an episode of the NBC series The Alcoa Hour (1955) on September 16, 1956. This version was so well received by the viewing audience and critics alike that Paramount released a feature film version in 1957 called Zero Hour! (1957) and later a CBS made-for-TV version called Terror in the Sky (1971), before the story was spoofed in Airplane! (1980). The story was even popular internationally: BBC adapted it for an episode of their series Studio 4 (1962), and a German-language remake was produced in 1964, under the title Flug in Gefahr (1964). In 1981, the drama was adapted for a radio play for Czechoslovak Radio (Ceskoslovenský rozhlas) as part of the radio series Let do nebezpecí (directed by Jirí Horcickra).
