      According to the autobiography of Bill Graham, the rock music promoter, he was a finalist for the role of C.E. Carruthers in The Law and Mr. Jones. Graham and Conlan Carter each filmed a scene with star James Whitmore as the final step in casting the role. Carter got the part. Graham's agent told him it was because Graham's "physiognomy played too strong."
