Another Interesting Experimental Film From Len Lye

A series of horizontal lines merge and separate while Tal Farlow's "Rock 'n Rye" plays on the soundtrack.

Like many of Lye's experimental films, I enjoyed it, because the attitude I get from his work is more on the order of "let's see if this works" rather than the loud proclamation that this is Art and you must admire it. It makes the point that what interests us about an artist in not the man or woman, but the art.

Lye put this aside in 1958, and it was finished .... that is, the synchronization between the images and the sound was completed in 1980 by his assistant, Steven Jones, under the supervision of Lye's widow.

The short form refers to creative works characterized by their brevity and concise storytelling. Unlike full-length feature films, short films have a running time of less than 45 minutes, while TV shorts have a running time of less than 22 minutes.
