The actual team didn't have enough money: once they arrived to the US border, they had to walk 7 miles to the city of McAllen, where their first game was to be played. They also struggled with food and lodging, and only the kindness of Texan people (Latinos and non-Latinos) allowed them to go on. By the time the team won all the regional games, they turned into some sort of local celebrities.
