Pursued by a posse, Cal, a young rancher (Gary Murray) and a young woman Janie,(Eilene Janssen) are forced to flee a town that has just been robbed; the rancher was ordered by an outlaw gang to reconnoitre the bank or else they won't save his brother - also a gang member. Things go wrong, and the woman's abusive stepfather catches her getting ready to escape and he hits her, but the rancher hits him. They both end up fleeing, chased into Indian country. Escape from Red Rock is an efficient western programmer that moves fast, makes you root for two young people, who frankly got the rough end of life's stick; Janie is abused physically and probably with a potential sexual assault (hinted at when Janie tells the sheriff that "it's the way he stares at me") by her stepfather and Cal is treated like crap for being an outlaw's brother by the lovely town folk and is kicked out of town and gets ensnared by his brother's gang to check out the bank for them.

You don't always get two young leads in a western, and the actors who play them are obviously green in the acting stakes, especially Gary Murray, but they do well as they can. Brian Donlevy and Jay C. Flippen are good in their roles, the former playing a gang leader who gets a soft spot for the bambino the young couple find. The baby bit is copied from other westerns - regardless, it's an enjoyable western where you hope things turn out right for the couple. Nice injun attack at the end, quite tense ...
