Trapeze artist Peter Arne thinks his wife was having an affair with the other who dropped her from the heights because he was drinking. Crunch. He confronts the man, they get into a tussle, and one of the other circus girls breaks in and throws an axe. Splat. Arne is convicted and is spending his fifth year in Dartmoor. He escapes and goes in search of witnesses who can prove his innocence. Along the way, he is shot in the leg.

It's too bad he didn't think of this during the trial. It's a decently acted no-name effort, released as a B picture. It's decently shot, too, but the plot is a search for witnesses, leading from one person who sends him on the next leg of his search.... rather dull in execution, alas. Robert Day directed, but the only names among the cast that are familiar to me are Victor Maddern and Barbra Archer, so I wasn't enthralled. Quite possibly the characters were more interestingly drawn in the Richard Savage novel this was derived from.
