Stars john hall, as a sailing captain, assisting ponce deleon, as the earlier euro explorers of puerto rico and florida in the early 1500s. This one has captain montalvo carting women around, to help settle the new lands. Edgar barrier is deleon himself. As a young lad, deleon joined columbus' second voyage. Later financing the voyages himself, in the name of the king, in return for title of governor of the lands he conquers for spain. It's all okay. Arguments between the women, and silly love stories added for embellishment. And most now believe that the fountain of youth was not really the goal. It was actually the land, power, and wealth deleon could reap from them. He later regained his title as governor of puerto rico. Filmed in spherical super cinecolor (!), everyone's uniform is bright and crisp, every time we see them. The film mostly highlights the struggles montalvo had with the pirates and natives. And a hokey (inaccurate) rewriting of history at the end of the film! Directed by lew landers. Seems to be for the younger crowd.... it's less about actual history and more for telling a tale of explorers and pirates. Barrier died young of a heart attack.
