Dated but acceptable melodrama with emotion, romance and final surprise; being narrated through a long flashback.

At the beginning of the film, the elderly Carmiña (Maruchi Fresno) recounts her life in a small Galician village to a painter, and and how a miracle saved her beloved Antonio (Jorge Mistral). From this point, a long flashback unfolds, continuing until the film's end. The tragic and tumultuous story begins when a humble fisherman (José María Lado) rescues a wealthy man (Carlos Casaravilla) and takes him home to nurse him back to health. The fisherman's wife then abandons her poor husband for the wealthy man. Years later, the latter's son (Jorge Mistral) appears in the Galician village and falls in love with the former's daughter... until her father finds out.

This melodrama was directed by the Galician Ramón Torrado (Fray Escoba), who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Adolfo Torrado, a popular playwright in the 1940s, and the writer H. S. Valdés, with whom the director collaborated on other films such as *El Emigrado*. So the interesting is from Adolfo Torrado Estrada who was a Spanish comedy writer, very popular in the 40s and 50s, brother of film director Ramón Torrado, in his theatrical pieces, characteristics such as sentimentality and easy humor are appreciated. Later he forged a dramatic formula that has come to be called "the epic of upstart." The three writers joined forces to tell this tragic story of a wife who abandons her poor husband for a wealthy man. Years later, the latter's son reappears and falls in love with the former's daughter. It stars Maruchi Fresno who, although frankly forgotten today, was a popular film and theater actress, known for Catalina de Inglaterra (1951), The Holy Queen (1947) and The Prodigal Woman (1946), even participating in some international productions as a supporting actress such as A Bullet for Rommel and Solomon and Sheba. Costars the successful heartthrob of the era, Jorge Mistral, his debut in theater was in 1943 and in cinema in 1944 with La llamada del mar and following films as Las inquietudes de Shanti Andía, El exprseo de Andalucia, La legión del silencio, Boy on a Dolphin, La Espada y la Cruz, Los pistoleros de Casa Grande. At the end of the fifties he lived in South America, he committed suicide with a gunshot while living in Mexico City, Mexico. And special mention for José María Lado who gives the best interpretation of the film, and adding other remarkable secondaries as Fernando Fernández de Córdoba, Rosario Royo, Xan das Bolas, Carlos Casaravilla, and José Ramón Giner,

There several local songs from Folkloric songs by the 'Coros de Ruada de Orense' (a chorus group). As well as evocative cinematography by José F. Aguayo (indoors) and Andrés Pérez Cubero (outdoors) shot on Galician locations. The motion picture was professionally directed by Ramón Torrado. He was a director and writer, known for directing some vehicles for well-known Folkloric Cinema stars such as Peret in ¨Amor a Todo gas¨ (1969), Manolo Escobar in ¨Un Beso en Puerto¨ (1966) and Paquito Rico in ¨Malvaloca¨ ( 1954). The previous ones being successes sufficient, and Torrado continued making other musical films of a similsar style. And he even made four Paella Westerns: ¨Los Cuatreros¨ de 1965, ¨La Carga de la Policía Montada¨ de 1964, ¨Relevo a Pistolero¨ de 1964 y ¨Bienvenido, Padre Murray¨ de 1963. Mar Abierto rating: 6/10.
