      The film was originally intended as a vehicle for Maria Montez and Jon Hall. Montez didn't like the script and refused to do the picture. Universal replaced her with Yvonne De Carlo and dropped Hall for Rod Cameron. DeCarlo ultimately replaced Montez at Universal and appeared in many of the studio's "sword and sandal" epics.
