The Naggers' Day of Rest (1931)

Jack Norworth will always be remember as a writer and especially for doing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" but early in his career he appeared in three short films with his wife Dorothy Adelphi. In the film, Norworth is trying to shave when his wife busts in demanding the Sunday paper and for the next nine-minutes the do nothing but fight. This is the second of the three films in the series. I found the first one, THE NAGGER AT BREAKFAST, to be slightly entertaining simply because of how crazy and old-fashioned its humor was in today's times. This sequel really isn't any better or worse but I'm sure most people are going to be completely annoyed by everything going on. The back and forth fighting really isn't what I'd consider funny but at the same time there's just something strange about the entire film and its story structure. I'm guessing people back in 1931 found this type of humor funny but it certainly doesn't translate to today. I will say that this does come off as an early version of The Honeymooners, although Norworth never gets too worked up. There are a couple slight funny moments here but certainly not enough to make it a winning film.

It's Sunday, and as usual a wife is nagging her husband, this time about the whereabouts of the Sunday newspaper which she's sure he's hiding from her. The husband is just as irritated by her nagging since this time it is interfering with him trying to take a shave and brush his teeth. Their argument extends to what belongs to whom and what each person contributes to the household. They end up doing things and making remarks just to irritate the other. Their argument reaches a whole different level when a pretty neighbor gets peripherally involved.
