The story is about Berenice, a little Italian girl who is obsessed with babies-hers, yours, anybody's. It would seem that all girls at one point have such a phase, a natural part of growing up, but our heroine's fascination starts with a statue of baby Jesus in the Madonna's arms at a convent she's confined to. After a storm, the place is damaged so she wanders out from a toppled gate, and finds trunks and debris on the beach from a shipwreck. Finds some boy's clothes and wears them, inspiring a man to take her in to his hotel room. There, he discovers her true sex, so he gets her appropriate garb and bankrolls her voyage to America. Only in movies can events like this string together. It's a short scene, but at the time, it was very common to get cute, soft little waifen actresses to be caught in adorably misfitting boy duds, even contriving a reason like this. Print Ads show her drest this way, and tag lines entice one to "See Anita in Pants!" Whatever age she's supposed to be, she's a bit, eh, backward. She thinks you can get to Naples from America via horse carriage, and that the convent's big enough for all the babies in the world.

The main part of the story concerns her living with Millionaire artist Conway Tearle in a nice, wholesome relationship, even adopting a baby for her, then misinterpretations by his estranged wife, and abused, all-too-tender-hearted feelings causing more misunderstandings and despair, all centred on babies.

It's a soap opera, and weep fest the way Great Grandma liked 'em. Still has fun for the viewer.
