Biography

Evan Handyside

Biography

  • Evan Handyside is a composer and finger-style guitarist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, whose minimalist, cinematic style has scored a series of independent short films, including Broken Noons (dir. Guillermo L. Vasquez), But for the Fall of Rain and last night, Los Angeles (dir. Adam Taylor), and The White Feather (dir. Patrick Lank and Jacob Pulras).

Working in the restrained, emotionally spare tradition of Gustavo Santaolalla, Max Richter, and Jóhann Jóhannsson, Handyside builds contemplative pieces around sparse finger-style guitar, ambient space, and subtle reverb, an approach rooted in the belief that restraint, not complexity, is what gives music its weight.

Beyond film, he is the bassist for the alt-rock band New Invisible Joy, having shared stages with artists including John Mayer, The Killers, and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana. He has taught guitar privately for over 30 years and releases his own catalog of cinematic instrumental music across major streaming platforms.
