- Ms. Fosburgh was born in New York City, the daughter of journalist and author Hugh Whitney Fosburgh and Helen Edwards Fosburgh. She graduated from the Brearley School in Manhattan and Sarah Lawrence College. From 1964 to 1966 she studied in New Delhi under a Fulbright grant. She began her writing career for The New York Times, where she worked as a staff reporter from 1968 to 1973.
