Biography

Tamara S. Hall is an award-winning director, screenwriter, actress, and entrepreneur from Philadelphia, PA. A graduate of The William Esper Studio, Tamara completed her studies in acting, movement, and voice & speech. She’s written, produced, and starred in short films that tackle both fun and timely topics in unique, genre-bending ways, all the while centering Black women. Most recently, her horror-drama short, "Black Butterflies" premiered on BET Networks and won "Best Short Screenplay" in the prestigious 2022 Atlanta Film Festival, was featured on Coverfly’s The Red List as the Top 1% in Genre/Format, and placed as a Finalist and Semifinalist in the Nashville FF Screenwriting Competition and PAGE International Screenwriting Awards. Her first two shorts, "Appetizer," which featured a fully women-led crew, and "A Night At The Table," her directorial debut, premiered at festivals such as Screamfest, BronzeLens, Pan African FF, Ax Wound, and more during the 2019-2020 film festival circuit. ANATT won a first place 3-year distribution deal with REVOLT TV. In 2021, Tamara was selected as 1 of 11 mentees for Black Boy Writes Media’s and Writ Large Inc’s talent incubator. Before becoming a filmmaker, Tamara worked for 10 years in the TV business at renowned networks such as HBO, Viacom, and NBCUniversal.

Tamara is the founder of, The Professional Filmmaker, a service and education based company that equips filmmakers with the business skills, tools, strategies, and resources needed to make a profitable and professionally successful film and career.

Also a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Tamara wrote, produced, and directed a number of award-winning shows and performances throughout her tenure as a student, such as "Behind Their Lips," a monologue show created to raise domestic violence awareness and "Till Life Do Us Part," a spoken word monologue tribute to the late Trayvon Martin.

Tamara considers herself an "activist through art," noting her affinity for creating unique and nuanced stories for the purposes of bringing awareness to important social and cultural issues not normally explored. She seeks to be a vessel for stories that uplift and entertain. She can be found inhaling the fragrances of the world whenever she's not working.
